LEAP offers 12 different languages

The University Language Centre's LEAP courses provide students, staff, and members of the public with opportunities to learn a language. 

LEAP's language courses include:

  • a wide range of languages and levels, from complete beginner onwards
  • courses that can be taken on a credit or non-credit basis
  • options to study face-to-face or online
  • specialised healthcare courses in French and Spanish.

How to enrol


Not all Schools allow students to take free-choice language  (also called LEAP) for credit. You should therefore check with your School Undergraduate Office before applying.

LEAP operates an application system and places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Please apply via our website. If you have any questions about the application process, please contact leap@manchester.ac.uk.
