UCIL Graduate Teaching Assistants
The University of Manchester University College for Interdisciplinary Learning is keen to hear from current PhD students who are interested in working as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for a range of undergraduate course units in 2025/26. UCIL units are interdisciplinary and attract students from across the University. Applications from a broad range of discipline areas are welcome.
GTA responsibilities will vary depending on the unit, but typically involve responsibility for tutoring groups of undergraduate students, leading online discussion groups, assessing students' work, and conducting face-to-face tutorials for some units.
GTAs are employed on a semester by semester basis. The average weekly working hours will vary from unit to unit, and will also vary over the semester, depending on tasks required. Some UCIL units are conducted entirely online whilst others will require GTAs to lead face to face seminars and tutorials. All UCIL units use innovative teaching, learning and assessment methodologies and training will be provided.
The number of posts available, and allocation of GTAs to units, will be dependent on student numbers.

Type of vacancy: Postgraduate part-time job
Degree required: Applicants should be studying towards, or have recently completed, a PhD in any discipline, unless otherwise specified in the Further Particulars. Applicants will need to have access to University of Manchester systems for the duration of the academic year for which you are applying.
Hours and Salary: Payment is on the University of Manchester GTA pay scale, depending on experience. See the Further Particulars for details of the number of hours per week.
Location: Oxford Road, Manchester
Skills required: Ideally some experience of teaching undergraduates and an interest in elearning. An interest in the topics explored in the UCIL Units for which you are applying and a passion for working with students is essential.
